We're starting off the new year with another Super Science episode of Crafty Creations, where we highlight great children's books while showing you how to do some great crafts to go along with them. Join Alyssa Crow as she shows you how to make some Funky Lava Lamps and Tremain Jackson will show you how to make some easy Volcanic Eruptions. Try these little science experiments out for yourselves and look for some great books to check out from your Abilene Public Library.

I short talk I gave for the Syracuse iSchool on 7 December 2011. It's not the most eloquent talk I've ever given but I think there are some good ideas contained within.

It's week 52 of our Kansas Sesquicentennial video series—our last video for this project, and as toys can be such a part of the holiday scene, we thought we'd wrap our year-long video series with a look at our antique Schoenhut Circus collection. These toys date back to the early 1900s. Children could collect them and stage their own "play" circus, complete with clowns, animals, ladders, balls and a variety of other props. The figures are moveable, jointed with heavy rubber cord and painted in bright enamel colors.

One day each year, the Library Board of Trustees closes the Library to allow all staff a day of learning, skills training, camaraderie, and a festive holiday lunch. In a 45-minute afternoon breakout session, a group of eight staff members of varying levels of technology experience and comfort gathered in the Library's Digital Media Lab to create slideshows from photos they snapped over several hours earlier in the day. They worked together on something that most of the group had never done before, creating memories for our staff and a story for our public. These are those slideshows… this is one story of Staff Day 2011.
