The 23rd Helen E. Stubbs Memorial Lecture
presents
Michael Rosen
"Trying to Catch the Moments"

Children's Laureate of England, 2007-2009, Michael Rosen is the author of more than 100 books of poetry and prose, and is a rebel against any movement to teach "literacy as an end in itself, while pushing open-ended literary enjoyment to the sidelines." His works range from Snore! , This is Not My Nose, Rude Rhymes, No Breathing in Class, and Zoomababy books to retellings of classic stories, introductions for children to Shakespeare and Dickens, and the Michael Rosen's Sad Book. In this lecture, Michael looks at some of the pivotal experiences of his life, and how these have influenced his work.

Leslie McGrath, head of the Osborne Collection of Early Children's Books, calls on Camilla Gryski, whose celebrations of fun and games are known and loved by all, to introduce Michael Rosen.

About the Helen E. Stubbs Memorial Lecture series

Helen Eunice Stubbs was born in Peterborough and raised in Toronto. She studied at the University of Toronto, and on completing the Library course in 1934, was hired as a children's librarian at Toronto Public Library. She became Regional Supervisor, then Assistant Head of Boys and Girls services, and finally Acting Head until her retirement in 1970.

Helen was a charter member and honorary patron of the Friends of the Osborne and Lillian H. Smith Collections. The generous lifelong support she had given the
collection was continued through a bequest. This finances special acquisitions, and an annual lecture on children's literature given at the Osborne Collection
by subject experts of "outstanding ability, interest and originality."
