It's week eight, and as we continue to honor Black History Month, this week we're featuring native Topekan and reknowned Harlem Renaissance artist, Aaron Douglas.

Every object has a story, and stories build history. To celebrate 150 years of Kansas statehood we're featuring 52 objects (or collections of related objects)—something new each week throughout the year—from the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library's 130-year-old special, and permanent collections, that represent our collective state history and cultural diversity. Your library's commitment to collecting art and preserving local history makes it possible for users today and in the future to have immediate access to invaluable research material and cultural artifacts.

…Okay, maybe it's not so spectacular. Some poetry, some New Year's resolutions, some reasons I should be the next Bachelor on ABC.

Happy Holidays.

Kids and adults alike jingled, sang and danced Dec. 21 during a flash mob event at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library. Not one of the lucky ones to catch this event live? Check out this video. We think we are the first (or one of the first) public libraries to host a flash mob, and we are proud of it! Awesome time and great rendition of Jingle Bells.
