Throughout the month of March, students from Smart, Sudlow, Walcott, Williams, Wood, and Young intermediate schools conducted oral history interviews with Veterans of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, as well as those who served in world conflicts in Somalia, Grenada, and Lebanon. The videotaped oral histories will be archived in Davenport Public Librarys Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center so the stories can live forever in Davenport history. Students also created projects based on the information they learned during the interviews.

The Iowa Stories Oral History Project is a partnership between Davenport Community Schools, the Davenport Public Library, the Davenport Schools Museum, and the Retired Senior and Volunteer Program. The goals of the program are to: encourage reading and sharing of family stories; rebuild a sense of community in Iowa; focus on public and school libraries as community centers for lifelong learning; foster a working relationship for school and public librarians; and to encourage non-traditional partnerships between libraries and other community organizations.
