Local writer Mark Kraushaar just won the 2009 Felix Pollak Prize in Poetry from the University of Wisconsin Press. UW Press just published his winning collection entitled, "Falling Brick Kills Local Man".

I have a brief discussion about poetry with Mr. Kraushaar and he reads three of his poems.

Aleks Krapivkin came to Skokie with his family from the Ukraine several years ago not speaking a word of English. Skokie Public Library has helped him to learn the language, get to know his community, and helped him discover his talents as an actor. He has since played lead roles in several high school productions, and plans to pursue a career in the theater after graduation.

In this video, Aleks shares his story and discusses other ways in which Skokie Public Library has played a role in his life.
